Privacy Policy

stokesdrift knows your gear moves. We don’t think your data should.

What data we collect

Account data: When you sign up, we store your email address and an encrypted password. That’s it for account creation.

Item and location data: When you add items, scan QR codes, or mark locations, that data is stored in your account. Location data (GPS coordinates, addresses) is only stored when you explicitly mark an item’s location.

Usage data: We collect anonymous aggregate data about how the app is used — things like feature usage rates and crash reports. We do not track which specific items you scan or where you scan them for analytics purposes.

What we don’t collect

  • We don’t sell your data. Ever.
  • We don’t show ads, so we don’t collect data for ad targeting.
  • We don’t read your QR codes, item names, or location history for any purpose other than providing the service to you.
  • We don’t track your real-time GPS location in the background. Location is only accessed when you explicitly tap “Mark GPS” or scan a QR code.

How data is stored

  • Mobile app: All item and location data is stored locally on your device first, using an offline-first database. Your data lives on your phone even without internet.
  • Sync: When you subscribe to a team plan, data syncs to our servers using conflict-free CRDT technology. This ensures your data merges correctly even when multiple people edit offline.
  • Encryption: All data in transit uses TLS encryption. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms.
  • Retention: We keep your data as long as your account exists. Delete your account, and we delete your data within 30 days.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Crash reporting: To fix bugs and improve stability. No personal item data is included in crash reports.
  • Payment processing: We use Stripe to process payments. We don’t store your credit card number — Stripe handles that securely.

We don’t use any third-party advertising or analytics services that track you across apps or websites.

Permissions

Camera: Used exclusively to scan QR codes. The camera is only active when you’re on the scan screen. We don’t record or transmit camera data.

Location: Used to mark where items are when you scan them. Location is only accessed when you explicitly choose to mark an item’s location. We don’t track your location in the background.

Data sharing

We don’t share your personal data with anyone except:

  • Team members you invite to your organization (they can see shared items and locations)
  • Law enforcement, when required by valid legal process
  • Service providers who help us operate the app (hosting, payments) — under strict data protection agreements

Your rights

You can:

  • Export all your data at any time from the app settings
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of crash reporting in the app settings

If you’re in the EU, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to access, rectification, erasure, and portability. Contact us at privacy@stokesdrift.com to exercise these rights.

Children’s privacy

stokesdrift is not intended for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll notify you by email and through the app for any material changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
