Terms of Service

Play fair. We’ll do the same.

Last updated: September 8, 2026

1. Acceptance

By using stokesdrift, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app. Simple enough.

2. What stokesdrift does

stokesdrift is a tool for tracking items and their locations using QR codes and GPS. You add items, generate QR codes, scan them to mark locations, and use checkout scans to verify nothing’s missing before you leave a venue. That’s the whole deal.

3. Your account

  • You need an account to use team features. The free tier works without an account for solo use.
  • You’re responsible for keeping your password secure. If someone gets into your account because you shared your password, that’s on you.
  • You must be 13 or older to use stokesdrift.
  • One account per person. Don’t share accounts — that’s what team plans are for.

4. Your data

  • You own your data. Items, locations, scan history — that’s all yours.
  • We store it to provide the service and sync it across your team. We don’t read it, sell it, or use it for anything else.
  • You can export all your data at any time.
  • If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days.

5. Free tier

  • The free tier lets you track up to 100 items as a solo user.
  • We may change the free tier limits with 30 days’ notice.
  • The free tier has no expiration date. Use it as long as you want.

6. Paid plans

  • Crew plan: $9/month, up to 5 team members, unlimited items.
  • Enterprise plan: $29/month, unlimited team members, custom fields, API access.
  • Prices may change with 30 days’ notice. Existing subscriptions keep their price until renewal.
  • You can cancel anytime. You’ll keep access through the end of your billing period.
  • No refunds for partial months. We’re a small team and this keeps things simple.

7. Acceptable use

Don’t use stokesdrift to:

  • Track people without their consent (the app is for tracking things, not people)
  • Store illegal content in item names, descriptions, or custom fields
  • Attempt to overwhelm our servers (we have rate limits for a reason)
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or mess with the app’s internals

Basically: use it to track your gear, be decent about it, and we’re cool.

8. QR codes

  • stokesdrift generates QR codes for your items. These codes contain a URI (stokesdrift://item/...) that identifies the item in the app.
  • QR codes generated by stokesdrift are for your use. Print them, stick them on your cases, share them with your crew.
  • Scanning a stokesdrift QR code with a generic QR reader will show the URI — it’s not a security feature, it’s an identification feature.

9. Offline and sync

  • The app works offline by design. Your data is stored locally first.
  • When you reconnect, changes sync automatically. The CRDT system handles conflicts gracefully — last write doesn’t always win; the system merges changes intelligently.
  • We’re not responsible for data loss caused by you deleting the app without syncing first, dropping your phone in a lake, or similar acts of chaos.

10. Intellectual property

  • stokesdrift (the app, the name, the logo, the design) belongs to stokesdrift.
  • Your data (item names, descriptions, location data) belongs to you.
  • You’re welcome to use, print, and share the QR codes generated for your items.

11. Disclaimers

stokesdrift is provided “as is.” We do our best to make it reliable, but:

  • We don’t guarantee the app will be available 100% of the time.
  • We don’t guarantee GPS accuracy — that depends on your phone and surroundings.
  • We’re not responsible if you lose gear. stokesdrift is a tool, not insurance.

Use it, love it, but ultimately you’re responsible for your own stuff.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, stokesdrift is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you’ve paid us in the past 12 months (which, for free users, is $0).

13. Termination

  • You can stop using stokesdrift at any time by deleting your account.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
  • If we terminate your account without cause, we’ll refund any unused portion of your current subscription.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll give you 30 days’ notice for material changes via email and in-app notification. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. If you’re outside the US, you agree to resolve disputes in the courts of our home jurisdiction.
